It is very important that Greeters demonstrate Christ-like love with a sincere, friendly smile. Such persons must demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit in the way they greet visitors and members. “Our first impression is a lasting impression.”

The Church is young and it is faced with some opportunities, one of which is during altar call there is a need for Greeters and Ushers to step in and assist in lending a hand in gently breaking church members falls. This situation does not arise on all occassions but there is a need to be prepared for all eventualities during the laying of hands by the Pastor. The greeters are responsible for laying cloths over each fallen church members. This is a dignity issue and the need to cover the church members. Until another alternative is availed by the Church Administrator it is expected that all the greeters should comply with the above. You as the leader is responsible in co-ordinating coverage at the altar. Added to your responsibilities you are expected to prepare a greeting schedule.

Greeters are specialists – remember that. So when looking for a new greeter consider the above attributes. When a person steps into a church for the first time, he or she evaluates the atmosphere. He asks himself: “Will they accept me? Will it be easy to make friends? Will my needs, spiritual and personal be met? Will it be easy to find my way around? Will my family like it here?”

The newcomer will quickly come to some conclusions during the first few minutes. First impressions are often lasting impressions. Consequently, the ministry of the greeters is one of the most important things that happens' in any congregation! Sometimes it is called “foyer ministry.”
